Scorpion

Scorpion
Burrow Buddy fits this fella as a juvenile, but they will outgrow it at around 2" body length. Plan for a larger terrestrial with a sand/soil mix and a scrape; Parabuthus maximus is one of the biggest buthids at 4โ5.5", and the venom is no joke. DM Big Z anytime if you want help speccing the next step.
Black-Tipped Thicktail Scorpion for sale from Big Z's (Parabuthus maximus). Spice-rated keeper notes, care guidance, and live-arrival packing where eligible.
The biggest buthid in the room, and it hits like it
Parabuthus maximus is exactly what the name promises: one of the largest true buthids on Earth, a thick-tailed southern African heavyweight from the dry scrub of South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. That muscular metasoma is not for show: Parabuthus are the genus that can stridulate a warning hiss and even flick venom, and this is the biggest of them.
It is a stunning display animal and a serious one. The venom is medically significant, the speed is real, and there is zero handling on the table: long forceps and a catch cup for everything. Big Z only ships this one to keepers with a confirmed enclosure plan, and is genuinely happy to look that plan over before or after you order.
The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
