Possible Origin / Range

Habitat is arid to semi-arid country in open sandy ground and at the base of shrubs, within the genus-wide restriction to areas receiving under 600 mm of annual rainfall. The supplier gave no locality for these animals and none is claimed.
  • Habitat translation: Species-level field work places this scorpion in southern African semi-consolidated sandy and gritty ground, where it excavates burrows in open ground or at shrub bases. Translate that into a warm house gradient with ordinary night cooling, deep form-holding sandy substrate, a starter retreat, a dry exposed surface, one localized damp refuge, effective low-mounted cross-ventilation, and safely sized open water. Exact climate values are not used as a captive optimum.
Advanced Keeper Details
  • Prendini's 2004 revision treats P. flavidus, P. truculentus and P. triradulatus as junior synonyms. A clinical database that lists P. truculentus separately is taxonomically stale and is not used for identity.
  • The primary revision confirms a five-country range east of the Kalahari system. Four public Malawi observations are an unresolved possible extension, not a verified expansion.
  • Adult 60-90 mm is an approximate specialist/hobby range; the fetched primary revision did not supply the asserted measurement.
