Blue Death Feigning Beetle for sale from Big Z's (Asbolus verrucosus). Spice-rated keeper notes, care guidance, and live-arrival packing where eligible.
Chalky desert blue, and its best trick is dropping dead
Asbolus verrucosus, the Blue Death Feigning Beetle, is a bumpy-backed darkling beetle from the American Southwest that looks like it was dusted in powder. A waxy blue-gray bloom coats its black shell, giving it that unmistakable chalky desert glow. It moves slow, scavenges dry sand and cholla wood, and carries itself like it owns the dune.
About as low-maintenance as inverts get: no venom, no bite, no sting, no fast surprises. Startle one and it just stops, tips over, and plays dead until it decides the coast is clear, exactly where the name comes from. Give it a dry, arid bioactive-style setup with a few hides and you are basically done. The care guide has the full build and the boundaries.
The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
