An extra inch of width over the 8 x 5 x 6 in 3 mm, and 5 mm walls instead of 3 mm.

Ten dollars more, and the reason to pay it is that the thicker box stays square when you lift the lid. 5 mm clear acrylic with a ventilated locking lid.

Hobby-practice target

Outside-floor ceiling: about 2.7 in. For a ground tarantula this is DLS under Tarantula Cribs' published rule; for a ground scorpion it is total length under Big Z's low-provenance house rendering of repeated practice. Both compare a 3 × 2 floor. Fossorial tarantulas and scorpions still need species-specific substrate and headroom. Neither number is a proven minimum.

Veterinary-clinic guidance

No universal clinic capacity. Tree of Life Exotic Pet Medical Center publishes 4–8+ in of compactable substrate for burrowing tarantulas, plus terrestrial floor and height guidance. For scorpions, Exotic Pet Vets publishes 20 × 10 × 12 in with 4–6 in of substrate for one adult Emperor. That number is species-specific; this box is not an automatic adult scorpion match.

Not a verified fit: the product title states supplier outside dimensions. Walls, lips, openings and build tolerance reduce usable space. Measure the finished inside enclosure and leave margin; an exact-edge equality does not count as a fit.

Measured candidates at the listed sizes (verify inside fit):

  • Fuzzy Camel Spider (Paragaleodes sp.), 1 to 2 in body
  • Vietnamese Vinegaroon (Thelyphonus sp.), 1 to 2 in juvenile
  • Golden Blue Leg Baboon (Harpactira pulchripes), grown on to about 2 in
  • Florida Blueleg Centipede (Scolopendra viridis), 2 to 3 in

Looking after the acrylic

  • Wipe with a soft damp cloth. Acrylic scratches more easily than glass.
  • Skip abrasive pads and ammonia-based glass cleaners. Both haze the surface.
  • Keep it out of direct sun. Heat build-up is a risk to the animal before it is a risk to the box.

Enclosure only. Substrate, cork and water dish are not included. Check your species substrate depth and ventilation needs before you set it up.
