About this Fella

Texas Gold Millipede for sale from Big Z's (Orthoporus ornatus). Spice-rated keeper notes, care guidance, and live-arrival packing where eligible.

A desert millipede cast in solid gold, built to outlast you

Orthoporus ornatus, the Texas Gold Millipede, is the US Southwest's native desert millipede in its brightest coat: gleaming gold and amber over a hardy desert frame. It roams the dry country of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, grows to a substantial 4 to 6 inches, and lives for years on end. Watch it flow across sun-warmed hardwood like a coil of polished brass.

Gentle and easy to work with, so handle it slowly and never grip: like most millipedes it can seep a mild defensive fluid that stains, so wash your hands after. The catch is that this is a desert animal, not a tropical one, and that trips up new keepers. Keep it drier than a rainforest millipede with strong cross-ventilation, mostly dry substrate topped with hardwood leaf litter, and just one lightly damp corner, because too-wet substrate and stale air are the number-one killers. It is an intermediate, semi-arid communal species that rewards a keeper who respects the dry side. The care guide has the full build.

The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
