About this Fella

Pine Giant Wolf Spider for sale from Big Z's (Hogna sp. "Pine Giant"). Spice-rated keeper notes, care guidance, and live-arrival packing where eligible.

Big enough to be mistaken for a tarantula, and it runs its prey down on foot

Hogna sp. "Pine Giant" (undescribed trade name), the Pine Giant Wolf Spider, comes out of the Florida pine flatwoods as one of the most impressive native wolf spiders in the trade. It is an undescribed Hogna sold under a trade name rather than a validly published species, and it is a different animal from Big Z's Carolina and Miami wolf spiders. We sell it small at 1 to 2 inches, but it grows into a genuinely large, heavy, thick-bodied true spider with the presence of something twice its price.

This is a ground hunter, not a web-builder: it chases prey down on foot and would rather bolt than brawl, though it will bite defensively if you corner it. The bite is painful and not medically significant, on par with the other large Hogna and Tigrosa species we carry, but these are fast, so handling is discouraged and the lid stays secure. Rated Spice 3 and best for intermediate keepers, it wants a wide floor with a few inches of sand-and-soil substrate to burrow in, leaf litter, a hide, and a shallow water dish. Keep the enclosure on the arid side. The care guide has the full build before your Pine Giant arrives.

The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
