Rhopalomeris carnifex, the Rainbow Candy Pill Millipede, is one of those animals that does not look real: a small Southeast Asian pill millipede banded in vivid red, yellow, and black, like someone spilled a packet of sweets. Touch it and it tucks into a flawless armored sphere: pure, mesmerizing defense, and completely safe to watch up close.

Pill millipedes are a whole different branch from the long “train” millipedes (rounder, slower, more like a tiny tank), and this is one of the showiest. No bite, no chemical defense, just rolling. It wants a humid, leaf-littered, well-decayed-wood setup, and it makes a jewel-box centerpiece for a planted bioactive enclosure. An instant kid-magnet.
