Gold-banded knees, an easy temperament, and a spider that just keeps growing
Grammostola pulchripes, the Chaco Golden Knee, is a grassland terrestrial out of Paraguay and Argentina that pairs bold golden banding on every leg joint with one of the calmest dispositions in the hobby. At 1 to 1.5 inches it is still an unassuming juvenile. Give it a few years and it fills out into an eight-inch heavyweight that owns whatever shelf it sits on.
This is one of the great beginner tarantulas: slow-moving, reluctant to kick hair, and forgiving of a keeper still finding the rhythm. It wants a dry terrestrial setup with a hide, a water dish, and enough substrate to scrape out a shallow burrow.
