Mastigoproctus giganteus, the Texas Giant Vinegaroon, is the true giant whip scorpion of Texas and northeastern Mexico, named as its own species in the 2018 revision that split the old giganteus complex from the Florida form. Picture a large, dark arachnid with heavy pinching pedipalps and a long tail-like flagellum that trails behind it like a living antenna, sweeping the dark for information rather than swinging as a weapon.
