Millipede

Millipede
This fella needs ground cover and diggable depth first, so the best checkout pair is a deep Buddy with a starter hide.
Slow, low-defense, easy care. A win for first-time keepers and family setups.
The Florida Ivory, with a hidden purple shimmer
This is Chicobolus spinigerus, the US-native Florida Ivory Millipede, in its “Purple Rainbow” color form: same hardy, easygoing species, but the dark bands throw an unexpected purple-violet iridescence when the light catches them. A genuinely uncommon look on a millipede that is normally about as common as they come.
Everything that makes the standard Ivory a great keep applies here: slow, gentle, totally harmless, an enthusiastic composter that turns a bed of oak leaf litter and rotting hardwood into both home and dinner. It is a perfect first invert and a quietly soothing one, with a collector twist for anyone who wants something the next person down the table does not have.
The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
