A New World spider with an Old World attitude
Psalmopoeus cambridgei, the Trinidad Chevron, is the big, fast-growing arboreal of the Psalmopoeus family, off Trinidad and Tobago: warm-toned, with a crisp chevron pattern down the abdomen and a growth rate that will genuinely surprise you between molts.
Like its relatives it has no urticating hairs, and it makes up for that with speed and a real willingness to bite if cornered, which is why keepers call it New World genetics with Old World manners. It is the classic intermediate “step-up” spider: the one that teaches fast-arboreal handling discipline before you ever touch a true Old World.
