About this Fella

Indochinese / Red Leg Vinegaroon for sale from Big Z's (Typopeltis laurentianus). Spice-rated keeper notes, care guidance, and live-arrival packing where eligible.

Typopeltis laurentianus (Indochinese Vinegaroon / Red Leg Vinegaroon)

The Texas Giant's tropical cousin, and one of the rarest vinegaroons to ever hit an American shelf. Same heavy pinching pedipalps, same long whip of a tail reading the dark, same shot of vinegar when something grabs it, on a darker, glossier animal with the rust-red legs that give it the hobby name. No venom, no sting, slow and deliberate, and a conversation piece every time someone leans in for a look. If you already love the Texas Giant, this is the one you have been waiting for; if you have never kept a vinegaroon, this is a beginner-friendly oddball with a defense mechanism nothing else in your collection can match. Grab a Red Leg Vinegaroon today while this import lasts.

Why do hobbyists keep Typopeltis laurentianus?

  • Rare in the Hobby: an Asian whip scorpion that almost never makes it into the U.S. trade. Few collections have one.
  • The Red Legs: rust-red limbs on a glossy dark body. The best-looking vinegaroon available.
  • Living Fossil with a Vinegar Gun: a fine spray of acetic acid is its only defense. Harmless to you, fascinating to watch, and a story to tell.
  • Easy and Long-Lived: no venom, no sting, simple burrowing setup, years of life.

How should Typopeltis laurentianus be kept?

  • Adult Size: about 1 to 2 inches of body, plus the pedipalps and the whip. These are subadults and adults, unsexed.
  • Enclosure: a 5 gallon or an 8 inch cube with 4 to 6 inches of substrate to burrow in, a snug hide and cross-ventilation.
  • Temperature: 75 to 85 degrees F. Warmer than the Texas species.
  • Humidity: 70 to 80 percent. Coco fiber kept moist enough to hold a burrow, never swampy. This is a rainforest animal, not a desert one.
  • Water: a shallow water dish at all times.
  • Diet: crickets or roaches once or twice a week, offered after dark. It hunts at night and spends the day underground.
  • Temperament: calm and slow. Not venomous and cannot sting, but keep handling rare and protect your face: the spray is mild on skin and sharp in the eyes. Wash your hands after contact.

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Wild-Caught: field-collected import from mainland Southeast Asia, settled and feeding.
  • Burrower: expect to see it after lights-out. A deep, moist substrate is the whole secret.
  • Spice Level 2: Beginner. One animal, shipped live on FedEx Overnight. Live Arrival Guarantee on overnight orders.

The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
