High contrast, high energy, always out in the open
The Brazilian White Knee, Acanthoscurria geniculata, is a big Amazonian terrestrial in dramatic black-and-white: inky body, bold white-banded knees, a thick coat of red-orange hairs over the abdomen, and a 7-to-9-inch adult span. It is big, it is bold, and unlike a lot of giants it actually sits out where you can see it.
The feeding response is the stuff of legend, a lightning strike every single time, which makes it one of the most rewarding display tarantulas going. Fast-growing, hardy, and uncomplicated on care, but with a real territorial swagger and a fast, food-motivated streak that nudge it out of the true-beginner lane. It does flick urticating hairs readily, so it is a watch-do-not-touch animal, and a heavy juvenile will eventually want a roomier custom build than the kit it ships in.
