About this Fella
Brazilian White Knee Tarantula for sale from Big Z's (Acanthoscurria geniculata). Comes with a Spice rating and a care guide, and ships packed for the weather.
Black and white, and out in the open
The Brazilian White Knee, Acanthoscurria geniculata, is a large ground tarantula from the Amazon region: black body, bright white bands on the legs and an adult leg span of 7 to 9 inches. Unlike many big species, it tends to sit out where you can see it.
It grows fast and eats eagerly. It kicks urticating hairs readily and can be defensive, which puts it a step past true beginner. A display animal that will need a bigger enclosure as it grows.
Full care is in the care guide. It covers enclosure size, temperature, humidity, feeding, molting signs and handling limits for this species. Read the Advanced guide, or the shorter Simple guide →

Use This Guide Safely
- Confirm the exact animal. Match this guide to the species, locality, size, and life stage on your label. If the ID is uncertain, use the more conservative part of the range and ask before changing the setup.
- Change one thing at a time. Treat temperature and humidity as target zones, then watch posture, burrowing, drinking, feeding, and molt behavior before making another adjustment.
- Respect the handling boundary. If the guide says no handling, fast, defensive, or medically significant, plan transfers with catch cups, locked lids, and no bare hands. For serious bites, stings, or symptoms, seek emergency medical care.

Recommended Big Z's Setup
- Baby Buddy: spiderlings only, escape-proof ventilation, rehouse before it gets cramped.
- Burrow Buddy: grow-out enclosure for juveniles.
- Adult custom terrestrial: a full-grown white knee (7-8 in) needs far more than 48 sq in of floor.
Critical Notes
- Kicks urticating hairs readily; irritation can be on par with or worse than Brachypelma.
- Big, bold eater; a fouled, still enclosure turns moldy fast, so keep ventilation moving.
- Keep pebbles in the water dish. Slings drown easily in an open dish.
- Pull uneaten prey before and during a molt.
- Grows fast; an adult needs far more floor space than a sling or juvenile setup.
Care Basics
- Feed well, but do not power-feed into obesity.
- Keep a large water dish full; add pebbles so slings cannot drown.
- Vent low on two opposite walls; moisture only works with air moving through it.
- Keep the lower substrate damp and the surface drier; mist under the hide, not the open floor.
- Expect bold, fast behavior and rearranged substrate; use stable hides.
- Handle rarely; it kicks urticating hairs readily.
Feeding, Growth & Maintenance
- High growth, high food response: use tongs and avoid startling it during maintenance.
- Slings 2x weekly, juveniles every 7-10 days, adults every 1-2 weeks; keep prey smaller than the abdomen.
- Read body condition: feed more if the abdomen is thinner than the carapace's widest point, less if plump.
- Before a molt it turns sluggish and stops eating for days or weeks. Normal. Pull uneaten prey, wait 5-10 days after the molt to feed again.

Advanced Keeper Notes
Enclosure & Microclimate
- Vent placement matters more than vent count: low on two opposite walls, at substrate level, so air crosses the floor, not just the lid.
- Hold 60-75% by keeping the lower substrate damp and running a large dish, then let the vents flow freely; do not seal the enclosure to chase a number.
- Judge by hand, not a gauge: lower substrate should hold shape when squeezed with no free water; let the surface look drier.
- Keep a large dish with pebbles or flat stones so the waterline sits below the rim; upsize the dish as the spider grows.
- Mist the substrate under the hide, not the open floor, so a humid pocket forms there while the rest stays dry and airy.
Possible Origin / Range
- Likely native range: Northern Brazil and Amazonian forest regions.
- Habitat translation: Amazon forest floor becomes a moisture-retentive terrestrial substrate with strong cross ventilation and a large, always-full water source.
Advanced Keeper Details
- High food response calls for deliberate, tool-based feeding and water changes.
- Adults are strong remodelers; use stable hides and expect substrate movement.
- Adult size about 7-9 in leg span; a fast grower on par with Lasiodora parahybana.
- Females live roughly 12-20 yrs, males about 3-5 yrs.
