About this Fella

Cascada Birdeater Tarantula for sale from Big Z's (Pamphobeteus sp. 'Cascada'). Comes with a Spice rating and a care guide, and ships packed for the weather.

Pamphobeteus sp. 'Cascada' (Cascada Birdeater Tarantula)

A 2 inch Pamphobeteus that already has some size on it. The Cascada is a South American birdeater sold under its trade name, and the genus finishes as heavy-bodied terrestrials around 7.5 to 9 inches across, with mature males turning iridescent purple. At 2 inches these captive-bred juveniles are past the tiny sling stage and eat like every Pamphobeteus does: hard and often. Grab a Cascada today and watch it pack on size.

Why do hobbyists keep the Cascada Birdeater?

  • Head Start: 2 inches now, past the tiny sling stage.
  • Fast Growth: big appetite and quick molts.
  • A Big Finish: the genus runs about 7.5 to 9 inches leg span as adults.

How should the Cascada Birdeater be kept?

  • Adult Size: the genus runs about 7.5 to 9 inches leg span.
  • Enclosure: a Burrow Buddy now, with moist-leaning substrate 4 to 6 inches deep, a hide and room to dig. Adults need a large custom terrestrial, about 18 x 18 x 12 inches or bigger.
  • Temperature: 72 to 80 degrees F. Cooler room temperatures are fine.
  • Humidity: 65 to 75 percent. Moist lower substrate, drier surface and cross ventilation. Don't let it dry out.
  • Water: a dish with pebbles in it.
  • Diet: a strong feeder. Juveniles eat once or twice a week; adults every one to two weeks.
  • Temperament: bold but skittish and fast. It kicks urticating hairs when stressed, so keep them out of your eyes and airway. A watch-only tarantula, not a handling pet.

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Captive-Bred: raised in captivity, sold at 2 inches.
  • Hobby Name: sold as Pamphobeteus sp. 'Cascada', a trade name for a Pamphobeteus that hasn't been matched to a described species.
  • Mind the Drop: a heavy Pamphobeteus and a fall don't mix. Keep climbing height low as it grows.
  • Spice Level 3: Intermediate. One animal, shipped live on FedEx Overnight, Monday to Wednesday. Live Arrival Guarantee on overnight orders.

Full care is in the care guide. It covers enclosure size, temperature, humidity, feeding, molting signs and handling limits for this species. Read the Advanced guide, or the shorter Simple guide →
