Arizona Desert Centipede (Scolopendra polymorpha)
Centipede

Centipede
This fella needs ground cover and diggable depth first, so the best checkout pair is a deep Buddy with a starter hide.
Defensive postures and stricter enclosure tolerances. Buy with a real plan.
That blue is real, and it does not sit still
Ethmostigmus sp. “Borneo Blue” wears the best color in the centipede world: an intense, genuine electric blue from Borneo. Not a photo trick, not a trick of the light, just that blue, on a 4-to-6-inch predator. And unlike a lot of the burrowing Scolopendra, this one is surface-active, so you actually get to watch it.
Watch being the operative word: it is fast, defensive, a committed escape artist, and the bite carries real localized swelling and possible systemic effects. Long forceps for every bit of maintenance, never a hand, display only. For an experienced keeper who wants a centipede that is as visually loud as it is alive, there is nothing quite like it. The husbandry, especially the lid, is required reading.
The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
