About this Fella

Mediterranean Velvet Spider for sale from Big Z's (Eresus sp. 'Balcanius'). Spice-rated keeper notes, care guidance, and live-arrival packing where eligible.

The ladybird spider's Balkan cousin.

Eresus sp. 'Balcanius' is a velvet spider from the Balkans sold under its trade name. Grown males of this genus are the famous red-and-black 'ladybird spiders'; females are velvet black and live in a silk-lined burrow with a small roof of web over the entrance. This one arrived at 1/8 inch, a very small sling.

Spice Level 2: Beginner. A small, dry-leaning setup with a few inches of substrate to burrow into and a little moss to web against. Slow moving and not defensive, but tiny and easy to lose. No handling.

The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
