Rare drop We don't get these often. Small batches, unpredictable restocks; if you've been waiting on one, this is the window. WC: Wild caught Collected from its natural habitat, then settled in at Big Z's before it ships. Plenty of species, adults especially, are rarely bred in captivity, so wild caught is how they reach the hobby.

About this Fella

Segmented Trapdoor Spider for sale from Big Z's (Luthela yuncheng). Spice-rated keeper notes, care guidance, and live-arrival packing where eligible.

A spider with a segmented abdomen, from a lineage older than tarantulas.

Luthela yuncheng, the Segmented Trapdoor Spider, is one of China's segmented trapdoor spiders, the oldest spider lineage still alive, and it still carries plates on the abdomen. It lives in a silk-lined burrow with a hinged trapdoor and almost never leaves it. This one arrived at 3/4 to 1 inch.

Spice Level 3: Intermediate. Deep, firm, moisture-holding substrate it can tunnel into, a starter hole, and a cool, undisturbed spot; these spiders do badly when dug up. Not defensive, but fragile. No handling.

The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
