About this Fella

Pink Bloom Tarantula for sale from Big Z's (Pamphobeteus sp. 'Platyomma'). Comes with a Spice rating and a care guide, and ships packed for the weather.

Pamphobeteus sp. 'Platyomma' (Pink Bloom Tarantula)

A big South American birdeater, starting small. Right now the Pink Bloom is a 1 inch sling with an orange abdomen and a bold black pattern on top, and it won't stay small long: Pamphobeteus eat hard, grow fast and finish as heavy-bodied terrestrials around 7.5 to 9 inches across. Mature males of the genus turn iridescent purple. These are captive-bred slings. Grab a Pink Bloom today and raise one of the hobby's big birdeaters from the start.

Why do hobbyists keep the Pink Bloom?

  • Fast Growth: Pamphobeteus grow quickly, so you see real change from molt to molt.
  • A Big Finish: the genus runs about 7.5 to 9 inches leg span as adults.
  • The Purple Payoff: mature males of the genus turn iridescent purple.

How should the Pink Bloom be kept?

  • Adult Size: the genus runs about 7.5 to 9 inches leg span.
  • Enclosure: as a sling, a small ventilated enclosure with moist-leaning substrate it can dig in and a hide. It moves to a Burrow Buddy as a juvenile, and adults need a large custom terrestrial, about 18 x 18 x 12 inches or bigger.
  • Temperature: 72 to 80 degrees F. Cooler room temperatures are fine.
  • Humidity: 65 to 75 percent. Moist lower substrate, drier surface and cross ventilation. Don't let it dry out.
  • Water: a dish with pebbles in it so a sling can't drown.
  • Diet: slings eat about twice a week. Adults eat every one to two weeks.
  • Temperament: bold but skittish and fast. It kicks urticating hairs when stressed, so keep them out of your eyes and airway. A watch-only tarantula, not a handling pet.

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Captive-Bred: raised in captivity, sold at 1 inch.
  • Hobby Name: Pink Bloom is the hobby name for a Pamphobeteus sold as sp. 'Platyomma'. The exact species is still unconfirmed.
  • Mind the Drop: a heavy Pamphobeteus and a fall don't mix. Keep climbing height low as it grows.
  • Spice Level 3: Intermediate. One animal, shipped live on FedEx Overnight, Monday to Wednesday. Live Arrival Guarantee on overnight orders.

Full care is in the care guide. It covers enclosure size, temperature, humidity, feeding, molting signs and handling limits for this species. Read the Advanced guide, or the shorter Simple guide →
