One Giant Desert Hairy Scorpion (Hadrurus arizonensis, 4-7 inches, wild-caught subadult to adult) and five Blue Death Feigning Beetles (Asbolus verrucosus, 1 inch, wild-caught adults). Same deserts, same dry substrate, same care, so all six live in one enclosure instead of two.

Hadrurus arizonensis is olive gold and covered in fine sensory hairs it uses to feel prey moving across the sand. It digs spiraling burrows deep enough to vanish into. Kill the lights, hit it with UV, and the whole animal glows greenish white. It will throw a posture and wave that thick tail at you, but the sting is mild to moderate. The size does the intimidating. The beetles are the part people underestimate. Asbolus verrucosus looks dusted in powder-blue chalk, moves slow, and scavenges the dry sand and cholla wood the scorpion has no interest in. No venom, no bite, no sting. Startle one and it tips over and plays dead until it decides you have lost interest.

Keep it arid. That is the whole trick, and it is the one thing new keepers get wrong. Dry substrate deep enough to burrow, a hide the scorpion can disappear under, real ventilation, no misting.
