Tarantula
This fella needs ground cover and diggable depth first, so the best checkout pair is a deep Buddy with a starter hide.
Hardy beginner pick with simple care. Pair with the matched habitat kit and the printable care guide.
Tiger stripes on a pocket-sized speed demon
Davus pentaloris, the Guatemalan Tiger Rump, is a small, fast-growing Central American terrestrial with bold black-and-orange tiger striping splashed across the abdomen. Adults stay compact at around a four-inch legspan, so it is a full-personality spider in a small footprint.
It is a busy, web-happy little animal with a feeding response way out of proportion to its size, genuinely entertaining to keep. It is skittish and quick (it would rather bolt than bite, and bites are rare), with mild New World venom and urticating hairs. A great colorful first-or-second tarantula for someone short on shelf space, not on enthusiasm.
The numbers live in the care guide. Enclosure size, temps, humidity, feeding schedule, premolt signs, handling boundaries: it's all in the care guide for this exact fella. Start with the full Advanced guide, or click for the quick Open the Simple version →
Davus pentaloris - Spice 2 — Beginner. Baby Buddy — spiderlings only (escape-proof ventilation; rehouse up before it's cramped); Burrow Buddy — forever home, juveniles through adults (this one stays small enough that 48 in² of floor is the finish line)
