The classic American tarantula: tough, docile, and long-lived
Aphonopelma hentzi, sold regionally as the Oklahoma Brown or Texas Brown Tarantula, is one of the most common and easygoing tarantulas in North America: a sturdy 4-to-5.5-inch leg span terrestrial with a calm temperament and a lifespan that can outlast the keeper who bought it.
It's a beginner-friendly staple: slow-growing, tolerant of a range of humidity, and rarely defensive beyond a kick of urticating hairs when startled. A simple terrestrial setup with digging depth is all it needs. The care guide has the build and the boundaries.
