About this Fella

Smoky Oak Millipede for sale from Big Z's (Narceus gordanus). Comes with a Spice rating and a care guide, and ships packed for the weather.

Florida's thick, sand-colored giant, sold as a mixed 2 to 4 inch group

Narceus gordanus, the Smoky Oak Millipede, is the heaviest-bodied native millipede in the US trade: a smooth tan-and-gray cylinder from Florida's scrub and sandhills that grows to about 4 inches long and up to half an inch thick, rippling forward on a wave of tiny legs. Color runs gray to tan and brownish depending on where it was collected, and the tan matches the sand it digs in. Glossy, slow and photogenic, it is one of the easiest display inverts you can keep.

No venom, no bite and no sting. Bothered, it coils up and releases a foul-smelling fluid that can stain skin for a day or two, so keep any contact brief and wash your hands after. It eats its own bed of oak leaf litter and rotting hardwood over a sandy, slightly drier base, does fine in a group, and wants room temperature with no heat. Skim the care guide, build the edible substrate before they move in, and you are done.

What you get: one wild-caught Smoky Oak Millipede from a mixed 2 to 4 inch group. Spice Level 1: Kid Friendly, as a brief-contact display animal. Ships live on FedEx Overnight with the Live Arrival Guarantee on overnight orders.

Full care is in the care guide. It covers enclosure size, temperature, humidity, feeding, molting signs and handling limits for this species. Read the Advanced guide, or the shorter Simple guide →
