About this Fella

Bach Ma Earth Tiger Tarantula for sale from Big Z's (Melopoeus sp. 'Bach Ma'). Comes with a Spice rating and a care guide, and ships packed for the weather.

Melopoeus sp. 'Bach Ma' (Bach Ma Earth Tiger Tarantula)

A cream-and-gold earth tiger with tiger stripes down the abdomen. Our 2 inch Bach Mas already show the pale cream carapace, tan legs and banded abdomen, and like the other Asian earth tigers they dig a burrow, web the entrance and come up fast for food. Adults reach roughly 5 to 6 inches across. These are captive-bred juveniles, past the fragile sling stage. If you keep Old World burrowers, grab a Bach Ma today.

Why do hobbyists keep the Bach Ma Earth Tiger?

  • The Color: a cream carapace and a tiger-striped abdomen on an earth tiger build.
  • A Real Burrow: it digs its own tunnel and webs the entrance into a silk funnel.
  • A Named Locality: sold under the Bach Ma name, an earth tiger that hasn't been formally described yet.

How should the Bach Ma Earth Tiger be kept?

  • Adult Size: roughly 5 to 6 inches leg span.
  • Enclosure: a burrow build. Firm, diggable soil or coir filled half to three-quarters of the way up, an anchored piece of cork as a starter retreat, and a secure lid with vents it can't squeeze through. A Burrow Buddy fits it now.
  • Temperature: 68 to 78 degrees F.
  • Humidity: 65 to 80 percent. Keep the lower soil lightly damp and the top drier, and add water slowly down an edge.
  • Water: a shallow water dish.
  • Diet: crickets or roaches no longer than its abdomen. Feed to its body condition, not a calendar.
  • Temperament: Old World: fast, defensive and quick to throw a threat pose, with a potent bite and no urticating hairs. No handling. Have a catch cup ready before the lid comes off.

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Captive-Bred: raised in captivity, sold at 2 inches.
  • Name Check: older hobby labels filed Bach Ma under Haplopelma and Cyriopagopus. The Asian earth tigers it groups with now sit in Melopoeus.
  • Burrow Time: expect to see the burrow more than the spider. Leave sealed burrows and molting spiders alone.
  • Spice Level 4: Advanced. One animal, shipped live on FedEx Overnight, Monday to Wednesday. Live Arrival Guarantee on overnight orders.

Full care is in the care guide. It covers enclosure size, temperature, humidity, feeding, molting signs and handling limits for this species. Read the Advanced guide, or the shorter Simple guide →
